She is just like any other "normal" toddler except for one thing, Shea has an inoperable brain tumor! In March, she was diagnosed with Optic Glioma, which is located in and around her optic nerves. Surgery could result in the complete loss of her eyesight. As a result, Shea will endure hours of weekly chemotherapy sessions for the next 18 months! Hopefully, treatment will shrink the size of the tumor and there is a chance that it will totally disappear! A cancer diagnosis for your child is every parent's worst nightmare! Add that to the soaring medical costs of ensuring the best treatment for the little girl you love with all of your heart and you have a family that is burdened with worry and stressed financially! On Sunday, July 16th from 12-5 p.m., there will be a fundraiser for Shea and her family that will be held at Pappas Restaurant, 1760 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, NY 14224. Enjoy food and drink specials while you shop from over 40 participating vendors and businesses. Admission is free! Of course, Janie's Closet will be there. Being part of an event that will help to give Shea her life back makes my heart soar! We will be offering $20 OFF all women's apparel and designer purses, plus an additional 25% all jewelry for this very special event. ![]() Wow! June sure is flying by! I mean that both literally and figuratively! Last weekend, it was a battle against gale force winds and the winds won! Erecting our tent was a lost cause even with 120 pounds of weights attached and staking it to the ground. After other vendors had theirs break or be blown away, we gave up just as a 60 mph gust tried to snap it in pieces! Fortunately, we held on to it for dear life and managed to save it! After taking it down, we were forced to do a minimal display. Not the gorgeous one that I always spend a lot of time on! The weights were used to anchor my garment rack and my merchandise was bungee corded together. Even then, it became virtually impossible to keep my clothing from flying off the rack. Normally that would be a retailers dream, but on this day, it was a nightmare! Desperately trying to "hang on," we conceded defeat and left early! Looking on the bright side of things, this weekend will be gorgeous! Sunny and in the 80s! It will be a perfect day to Discover Kenmore, an annual event on Saturday, June 17th from 9-3pm on Delaware Ave in the Village of Kenmore. Many restaurants will be represented, so come hungry and sample some of the delicious food that they will be selling in this festive atmosphere that features live music, dancers, and balloon lined streets. Of course, Janie's Closet will be there! Unlike Mother Nature's attempt to relocate Janie's Closet to Oz last weekend, it is safe to say "stop by our tent" at Discover Kenmore to receive an additional $20 OFF the lowest price of all women's apparel and designer purses. Plus, there is 25% OFF all jewelry and specials on handcrafted soaps and original photographic prints! Come One! Come All! Just leave the wind home!! In my last blog, I mentioned that Janie's Closet participates in outdoor festivals throughout NY State from Memorial Day until October, when we end our hectic outdoor season with Oktoberfest in Ellicottville. This event draws thousands of local and international visitors.
On Friday, June 9th and Saturday, June 10th, Janie's Closet will be at the 31st annual Albion Strawberry Festival in Orleans County. Event hours are from 11 am to 9 pm on Friday and 9 am to 9 pm on Saturday. Then we'll quickly pack up, stop home to briefly recharge our electronics and ourselves, and then in a Blink of an Eye, we'll be at the Taste of the Track at Batavia Downs in Genesee County on Sunday! Event hours are from 10 am to 4 pm. Phew! What a weekend! Here's the best part! All weekend long, Janie's Closet will be offering an Extra $20 OFF the lowest marked price of all designer purses and women's apparel!! Don't Blink and miss out on these fabulous deals!!! WOW! It's June already and time for the "Festival Season" to begin! From Memorial Day weekend until September, you'll be able to find Janie's Closet at outdoor events throughout New York State. From the Finger Lakes Wine Festival to the Taste of the Track at Batavia Downs to the Arts and Music Celebration in Ellicottville and to Saratoga Springs during the very famous horse racing season, plus vending at the hottest summer spot in Buffalo, Canalside, this is my favorite time of the year! A time when I get to bring Janie's Closet to the community! I'd be kidding if I didn't say it was also a lot of hard work! Event codes must be adhered to, tents set up and weighted! Packing up the car and moving the merchandise to the event site. Sometimes, you can drive right up to your location and unload and other times, you have to haul it! Plus at events, I add jewelry to my merchandise line, which adds to the set up time. Jewelry may be added to the online store as Janie's Closet grows, but for now it's limited to events! (Sorry, Jewelry lovers!) When, the event is over, you get to take it all down and load up the car again! Only by now, you're exhausted and just want to get home as quickly as possible! Then, there's the weather! Hopefully, it's always a beautiful sunny day in the 70s, but that's my "dream" event and almost never the case. If there's the potential for rain (UGH!) or wind (DOUBLE UGH!), then the flaps to your tent need to be lowered to prevent your merchandise from getting soaked or your tent from getting blown to Kansas! The temps can soar into the 90s during the summer and by September, you could be in the 40s. Sometimes set up time is so early in the morning that you are forced to dress in layers as temps change throughout the day! I've been forced to be very creative in the removal and addition of my "layers." But, I honestly love Festival Season! Meeting new people, connecting with new customers, re-connecting with past ones and bonding with your fellow vendors. We all put our hearts and souls into this very special time of the year! Here's where Janie's Closet will be next weekend! The 31st Annual Albion Strawberry Festival! This year's Festival is dedicated to Charles W. Howard, who started the Santa Claus School in Albion in the 1950s and was Santa in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade for many years! This quaint village is having a statue made in his honor and this year's Festival will be named after him. Since Vendors are encouraged to decorate their booths for the holidays and to sell holiday-themed merchandise, come on out and get an early start on your shopping! Additional details can be found on their Facebook page! |
